Your Opinion: Why are people so thin-skinned?

Dear Editor:

Thank you for the story with the picture appearing several days ago under the heading "Hooked by Ladder." The incident that happened to the suspect being chased by the police officers into a house and what transpired with assistance from the fire department mirrored somewhat a problem that developed outside this citizen's home and she was puzzled as what to do.

Now in my mind, police officers could perform all types of duties which I unknowingly thought they could lend assistance in the matter confronting me. I found this not to be necessarily true.

Perhaps the person was playing a new game with me that could very well be called "Find me if you Can." I thought it was becoming a little eerie to say the least as it happened three times during this one week. My courtyard came into play in this game. It has not happened since.

Everything is back to normal, I am hoping.

Unlike many individuals, I see humor and do we ever need it now more than ever, in many things happening in our land. What has happened to the American people in fun situations? Why is everything taken so seriously? Now we have the situation developing with the performance by the rodeo clown at the state fair. And for a state government official to jump into the fray is unbelievable action on his part. And he called it disrespectful. Missouri officials should not even think of taking any financial retaliation against the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association, nor should its president have resigned.

There are black performers who paint their faces white, but we Caucasians enjoy their performances and don't file lawsuits. Black females dye their hair blond, brown and every other color to mimic us but we remain rational.

Even our Caucasian presidents have been illustrated in other ways and they have not been upset by the caricatures of themselves.

Why have people become so thin-skinned about everything.

This is much ado about nothing.
