Your Opinion: Disgusting display of bad behavior

Dear Editor:

A primary purpose of the Missouri State Fair is to showcase the very best our great state has to offer.

I especially want to congratulate my young friends in the 4-H for winning exhibits and livestock showing. So proud of you and the marvelous character-building experience that 4-H as well as other youth programs provide.

The Missouri State Fair receives taxpayer funding. A rodeo is a bit of Americana, kind of like mom and apple pie. Attended by the young as well as the old, I'm willing to bet that many attending this year's disputed performance consider themselves Christians.

For those who cheered for physical harm to a sitting president, are you aware that love, according to sources, is used over 150 times in the New Testament? And that includes love your enemies. Haven't we had enough bad behavior, political and Christian hate, and veiled racism? Is WWJ simply a nice phrase for jewelry, etc.?

Mr. H from Centertown seems to believe that because previous atrocious behavior was displayed, any current bad behavior is perfectly justified. Mr. H, my mom taught me from a very young age that just because "everybody else" was doing something, absolutely, unequivocally, in no way would I be doing it. Thanks mom.

Cheering for harm to a sitting president, at a venue receiving taxpayer funding with children in attendance is disgusting, regardless of whether the president is Bush (who I personally considered a buffoon) or Obama. The State Fair is not meant to be a "shock jock" show.

We proudly call Missouri the Show Me State. Once again, we had the national stage and we "showed" them. Hard to believe that some consider us backwater? How dare they?

Another proud day for Missouri. Another descent into the swamp of incivility. Surely, we are better than this. Or are we?
