BizBeat: New boutique to hit High Street

Sonja Thompkins is excited to reopen a chapter of her life that has been closed for more than a year. The St. Louis native previously owned and operated a boutique in her hometown for eight years.

"I am excited to get back into customer interactions," the new business owner said.

The I Love This Look Boutique is set to open Sept. 5 in Jefferson City at 120 E. High St., the current location of Perfect Fit Boutique, which is scheduled to close by the end of August.

Thompkins said her store caters to customers ages 20 to 50, sizes 2 to 20. The variety of offerings, including women's clothing, accessories, and eclectic and repurposed home decor and specialty gifts, will have a unique and contemporary style, with a bit of flair. The store will only carry a few of each size, so customers can be confident they are buying unique pieces.

"I love introducing new things to clients," Thompkins said.

The licensed cosmetologist said she has done personal styling in the past, and loves personalizing shopping experiences.

Thompkins said many women have a negative self-perception.

"It is about personalizing the service and experience. It is just showing women it's not your size or your age, but your personality and shape that makes you look nice," she noted.

I Love This Look Boutique will have moderate price points, and plans to be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays.

Thompkins hopes to incorporate a donation to local not-for-profits several times throughout the year in order to give back to the community.

After winning the 2011 Best Small Business Award in St. Louis, Thompkins hopes that Jefferson City will embrace her new business with open arms.
