Your Opinion: Smoking diminishes Jaycees fair experience

Dear Editor:

The Cole County Fair has come and gone. I always enjoy going to the fair and taking my children. The lights, the sounds, the rides, the excitement.

It was all I could ask for and more but there was one dark cloud lingering over the fair grounds. I am sure if you look today you will still see the haze. The dark could is caused from cigarette smoke.

There was people smoking everywhere. People were smoking in the line waiting to get on a ride, in line for food, in line for drinks, all up and down the midway, in the grandstands, the concerts, in the restrooms, everywhere!

Grandmas and grandpas, moms and dads, and even teenagers participated. I know this was an open air event but my clothes smelled like I just came out of a bar before Jefferson City went smoke free. I do not understand the need to light up while you are in the food line or while holding children before the get on a ride.

I think the Jaycees need to implement a smoking area. Not ban it but contain it for the sake of our children.
