Two rescued after boat capsizes in Osage

August 8th, 2013 in News

In Tuscumbia, water from the Osage River was a few feet from the roadway before the dam's floodgates opened. On Route 17 west of Tuscumbia, Saline Creek was also flooded. Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) employees assisted in excavating ditches and trying to control run off that was filtering water, mud and debris over Missouri Highway 17.

Osage Fire Protection District crews helped with a water rescue about 1 p.m. Wednesday on the Osage River near the St. Thomas Bridge.

District officials said a man and wife who were headed to clean out a cabin on the river went into the water after their boat capsized.

They held onto the boat, floated downstream for a time and were eventually helped by a couple of men in another boat who pulled them into their vessel.

Firefighters brought the boat to shore, and the couple was in good shape after being checked by ambulance personnel who determined the couple was in good shape with no injuries.
