Visitors to downtown Jefferson City should see fewer cigarette butts and less litter around outdoor cafes in the future.
Following complaints about trash on the ground, the city is tweaking its sidewalk cafe permit code requiring permit holders to sweep daily. And trash receptacles will be made available at each sidewalk cafe. Uncleanness could be grounds for revoking a permit.
The code change will be introduced at the 6 p.m. Monday meeting of the Jefferson City Council.
Among the bills pending, the council will consider a 50/50 grant agreement with the Missouri Department of Transportation to fund the remaining 18 percent of costs to operate the air traffic control tower left after the 82 percent paid by the federal government.
Other bills to be introduced include:
• A non-binding memorandum of understanding with several property owners outside the city limits, who have offered to voluntarily annex more than 200 acres into the city in exchange for the city funding an extension of Mission Drive and accompanying sewer through the property.
• Authorization for the sale of the former Greyhound bus station in the 600 block of East McCarty Street to Alex Mastrogiannis.
• Accepting a preliminary planned urban development for the 2500 block of Tanner Bridge.
• Extending a contract to Aplex Inc. for a cost-share sidewalk, curb and gutter project in the 1200-1300 blocks of Moreland Avenue, funded through the half-cent sales tax.
• Setting Aug. 19 for a public hearing regarding the operating budget.
