Longtime car dealership Riley Toyota Scion celebrated a milestone last week in the company of community members, customers and supporters. The Riley brothers - Kevin, Mike and Carey - hosted the grand opening event on Tuesday at Riley Toyota's new location, 2033 Christy Drive.

A ribbon-cutting, complete with free valet parking, hors d'oeuvres and goodies, made the rainy, cold afternoon a grand opening to remember.

Kevin Riley noted the new location provides a safer shopping experience, as well as a more convenient location, sitting directly next to the Riley General Motors building.

"It (the new building) means we can obviously service our customers in a bigger, more modern, up-to-date facility; offer more new and pre-owned inventory, and provide quicker service time, in a more comfortable environment," Riley explained. "For my employees, it means a much cleaner and safer building to perform their work in."

The 38,000-square-foot building was in the dream stage for nearly three years before hard planning began. The location was built and opened within a year of purchasing the property from the Knernschield and Strobel families. Riley said the business has purchased approximately 25 acres from the families since 1970.

The Riley brothers formed a partnership 22 years ago, after purchasing Riley Oldsmoblie Cadillac Toyota. The business eventually evolved into what it is today Riley Toyota Scion.

The new building will be used for selling new and used cars, servicing vehicles, renting and leasing vehicles, as well as selling parts. The business moved from its previous Missouri Boulevard location in two days, opening on Dec. 17.
