JC man faces burglary charge

A Jefferson City man is being held on $150,000 bond in the Cole County Jail after being taken into custody for first-degree burglary.

Court documents show Antwain Stewart, 36, of 206 N. Ventura, entered a residence late last week in the 100 block of Ventura Avenue for the purpose of committing sexual misconduct and assault.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows a female victim said she was sleeping in her bedroom when Stewart came in and started to take off his clothes.

She grabbed a kitchen knife from under her mattress, Stewart began to gather his clothes and she chased him out of the residence.

The victim gave a description of Stewart to police and he was picked up two blocks away from the victim's residence.

The victim visually identified Stewart as the man who entered her bedroom.

Authorities said Stewart has multiple incidents in the Ventura area, including domestic assault and suspicious activity in the past month.

He also has several violent convictions in his past, including second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
