Your Opinion: Second Amendment is a right

April 19th, 2013 by Mary Bruenger, Jefferson City in News

Dear Editor:

A reply to the illogic of Ruth Robertson:

The 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is a right not a privilege. Driving a vehicle on public roadways is not a right. Anybody can own and drive a car without obtaining a license if the vehicle stays on private property. Owning and carrying a firearm is right and should not be infringed; however, historical and ideological fundamental truths have never bothered any Democrat my comrades. The letter from Robertson is a clear example of fallacious argumentation.

The main purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to enable the people to overthrow a tyrannical government. Allowing a tyrannical government knowledge of who owns what firearm directly negates the purpose of the 2nd Amendment. The tyrannical government can arrest and confiscate gun owners and their guns thus rendering the people helpless.

Robertson is an example of a low information citizen or a fellow traveler. Either she does not know history or she believes in the ends justify the means ideology so the U.S. Constitution must be ignored or subverted. There is a fundamental concept that ignorance of the law is no excuse.

However Democrats ignore or attempt to destroy that pesky impediment that is the law of the land called the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution protects individual freedom and prevents dictatorial-minded people from obtaining more power to oppress the people.

The NRA follows and seeks protection for the U.S. Constitution while certain citizens ignore or seek to destroy the U.S. Constitution be it from their ignorance or maleficence. Demonizing the NRA is straight from "Rules for Radicals" written by Saul Alinsky and Karl Marx before Saul.

By the way Robertson should understand neither she nor anybody else "owns" their supposedly private property if a government entity is allowed to put a yearly lien on such property but the aforementioned concept is fodder for another letter on taxes.

The very weapons Robertson seeks to ban are the weapons the people will need to protect their freedom from a tyrant. The Republican Party originated to mount organized opposition to slavery while Democrats supported slavery then and now.

Remember the MSNBC host stating the collective owns the children. The fellow travelers in the lame stream media, essentially spokespeople for the Obama regime, have twisted the trust so low information citizens keep voting their rights always in blissful ignorance.
