Jays third, Helias fifth in golf tourney

NEW BLOOMFIELD - No one was going to catch Rock Bridge on Monday.

The Bruins shot a 299 and ran away with the large-school title of the Helias Invitational at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club.

The Bruins had all five golfers finish 80 or better as Jake Knoesel won the individual title with a 71. Jefferson City was second with a 329 while Helias was fifth, shooting a 336.

Grant Hansen led the Jays with an 82. Gabe Trowbridge was second with an 83.

Helias was led by Austin Smith's 79 and Andrew Schaumburg's 83.

It was a similar story on the small-school side as Sullivan outdistanced Southern Boone with a 311 to take home the title.

The Eagles shot a 322 and were led by Walker Kesterson with a 75. Kesterson tied for medalist honors. Blake Lammers shot a 76.

Linn took fifth after shooting a 375. Zach Kucsik led the way with a 77. Fatima was right behind Linn with a 378. Connor Muenks shot a 78 to lead the Comets.

Russellville's Chandler Wolf led the Indians to an seventh-place finish. He shot a 79 as the team finished with a 379. New Bloomfield finished eighth as Dustin Gillispie shot an 88.
