Lincoln women still No. 1 in track

Lincoln men at seventh

The Lincoln women's outdoor track and field team is the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II for the third week in a row.

The Lincoln men sit in seventh, according to Tuesday's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II National Poll.

The Blue Tiger women received 281.12 points in this week's rankings, putting Lincoln more than 70 points ahead of No. 2 Adams State, which had 209.59 points. Grand Canyon is third with 187.57 points.

The Lincoln men dropped a spot to seventh despite earning 122.33 points, which bettered last week's 120.57. The Blue Tigers still sit atop the MIAA, as No. 9 Pittsburg State has 102.05 points.

Saint Augustine is the top-ranked men's team with 235.05 points, Grand Canyon is second with 218.74 and Adam State is third with 210.63.

According to the USTFCCA website, the organization compiles its national team rankings by "mathematical formulae based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons. For the preseason ranking and early-season rankings, data will be taken from previous seasons as well as the current season. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national-team race."

Both Lincoln teams will travel Saturday to St. Louis for the Billiken Invitational, which will be hosted by Saint Louis University.
