Local man gets 5 years for shooting

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to five years in prison for pleading guilty to charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and assault on a law officer after shooting at police in August 2012.

Albert W. Miller, 32, of 1104-A E. McCarty St., will have his sentence run concurrent with all other sentences against him.

Police reported Miller was arrested after SWAT team officers served a search warrant for drugs at his apartment.

No officers were hit by the gunfire or injured.

Shots were fired at the officers as they entered the apartment.

As soon as Miller was taken into custody, officers recovered the semi-automatic handgun used to shoot at the officers, as well as a small amount of heroin and a larger amount of crack cocaine.
