Boy Scout units from across Mid-Missouri took part in the first Scout Service Day at the Lake of the Ozarks State Park this past weekend.
About 200 scouts and their leaders took part in the event, which was a joint project of the Boys Scouts and the Department of Natural Resources.
DNR personnel assigned units projects to complete around the park. Scouts, under the supervision of DNR employees, worked on: spreading playground Kiddie cushion; cleaning out fire pits; raking leaves; painting; cleaning barbecue grills; and replacing rail fencing.
Scouts started their projects started about 9 a.m. and completed them around 3:30 p.m.
The weekend was not all work.
Units camped out for the weekend at Camp Clover Point. On Friday night, DNR hosted a split-rail fence demonstration and owl program.
