Newly elected officials excited about school board's role

EUGENE - Serving on the school board is a civic duty for Curt Brumley, who will serve a third term at Cole County R-5 Schools.

The Eugene district had two openings and two candidates, allowing it to save the cost of an election this year.

As an alumna, newcomer Tracy Wunderlich said she wanted to "help ensure its success."

She replaces Todd Hogg, who did not seek a second term.

Wunderlich, 33, has four children in the district ranging from high school to preschool.

"I felt that my broad perspective would be a beneficial attribute to the board," Wunderlich said. "My position will always be for what I feel is best for our students."

Brumley's father was an educator, and the 52-year-old has children in junior high and high school.

"The school is an important part of the community," Brumley said.

Both board members expect changes and opportunities with a new superintendent.

In his last two terms, Brumley has seen the school increase security features, add computers to classrooms and build a track facility.

He expects the district will continue technology improvements "to help teachers and prepare students for when they graduate."
