SPRINGFIELD - The Jefferson City tennis team improved its record to 2-2 with a 5-4 victory against Glendale on Friday night.
Singles winners for the Jays were David Clausen (6-3, 6-4), Isaac Roling (3-6, 6-4, 10-3 match tiebreaker) and Rex Michitsch (2-6, 6-2, 10-2 match tiebreaker). Sam Johnson (3-6, 2-6), David Steinmeyer (6-3, 3-6, 6-10) and Spencer Bone (4-6, 6-4, 6-10 match tiebreaker) suffered defeats for the Jays.
The Jays won two of the three doubles matches as Steinmeyer and Roling won 10-7 and Bone and Dalton Doyle won 10-5. Johnson and Clausen lost 6-10.
The Jays are back in action at 10 a.m. today against Springfield Central.
Mudd drops two matches
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Logan Mudd's run in the National High School Coaches Association's National High School Wrestling Championships came to a close Friday.
Mudd, a junior at Blair Oaks competing in the 132-pound weight class in the division for juniors, lost twice to end his tournament title hopes.
Mudd lost in the round of 16 by the score of 9-8 to Alex Monaco of First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills, N.C.
That sent Mudd to wrestlebacks where he beat Gene Balcita of North Hagerstown High School of Baltimore, Md. Mudd won 15-8.
Mudd then bowed out with a 3-1 loss in the second round of wrestlebacks to Dane Robbins of Robinson High School in Fairfax, Va.
