Neighborhood offers fun, food, fast dogs at Oktoberfest

Artisans sold their handmade wares, and grapes were stomped in a variety of contests as hundreds, if not thousands, of people filled the streets of Jefferson City's Munichburg area for the annual Oktoberfest, which celebrates the area's rich German heritage.

The streets of Munichburg were filled with antique cars, and German music drifted through the streets. The annual event has gained popularity through events like the grape stomp, beer garden, vendors and the dachshund races and costume contest.

The Rev. Berta Hepler and her husband, Wayne, have been regulars at the festival since they returned to Jefferson City in 2001 to care for her mother. Hepler was one of only a handful of people gathered on ....
