A Gravois Mills man drowned while trying to save another swimmer in Morgan County at the Lake of the Ozarks.
According to a report from the Missouri Highway Patrol Water Division, Ernest Ekstam, 67, jumped into the water around 6 p.m. Friday night to assist another struggling swimmer.
He then began to struggle himself.
A life jacket was thrown to Ekstam, but he lost consciousness.
He was pulled into another boat that was passing by, but eventually he was pronounced dead at the scene.
