Feds boost reward for info on Joplin mosque fire

September 19th, 2012 in News

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - Federal officials are now offering $50,000 for information on a July fire at Joplin mosque that was destroyed in a separate blaze a month later.

The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said in a release Wednesday they're increasing their original $15,000 reward to $50,000.

The reward is for information that leads to a conviction in the July 4 fire at the Islamic Center of Joplin. Video footage of the July 4 fire shows a man tossing an ignited object onto the roof, which was damaged.

The agencies said they're also continuing to investigate the cause of the suspicious fire that destroyed the mosque on Aug. 6.
