Wanda King has played the role of wife and parent during various stages of her life. Now, at the age of 80, she's playing the role of caregiver to her husband as he struggles with Alzheimer's disease.
She's quick to acknowledge that it hasn't been easy. But King is thankful for the Mid-Missouri chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and the information and resources they've provided to her.
The Jefferson City woman, who is retired after a career with the Missouri Public Service Commission, started seeing her husband's declining health over Thanksgiving weekend last year. A two-week stay in the hospital caused him stress, leading to confusion and anxiety.
