JC man indicted on charges of stealing car parts

The Cole County grand jury has indicted a Jefferson City man on two counts of stealing by deceit, for taking vehicle parts from two vehicle repair businesses.

The grand jurors charged Daniel Swanson, 58, 3024 Mercedes Lane, while acting with another individual, with taking parts valued at $500 or more from Al Scheppers Motors and Capitol Chrysler.

The indictment says Swanson told both businesses he "was employed by Linn State Technical College (and) had the authority to place orders on behalf of Linn State," which he knew was a false statement, but caused the businesses "to part with such property."

The indictment said the thefts occurred Jan. 31 at Al Scheppers Motors, and Feb. 3 at Capitol Chrysler.

The stolen items were not specified and, since a 12-person grand jury heard the evidence, no probable cause statement was released that would provide more details about the charges.

Bond was set at $200,000.
