Slay hopes to lure Democratic convention to St. Louis in 2016

ST. LOUIS (AP) - If St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay has his way, the next Democratic National Convention will be in his city.

Slay, a Democrat in heavily-Democratic St. Louis, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch ( http://bit.ly/Q2t9q6 ) that his administration continues to explore making a bid for the 2016 convention.

St. Louis was a finalist for the 2012 presidential nominating convention but lost out to Charlotte, N.C.

Slay believes St. Louis would have been a better choice, with more hotel rooms and amenities, but understands that North Carolina is up for grabs politically while Missouri is expected to vote Republican.

Still, Slay says his administration is ready to make the case for the convention in 2016.
