Stained Glass Theatre offers "Schoolhouse Rock Live'

"Conjunction Junction what's your function ..."

"I'm just a bill; Yes, I'm only a bill ..."

"Mother Necessity, where would we be ..."

They're catchy tunes we immediately recall from childhood Saturday mornings. And hidden inside each of the Schoolhouse Rock musical television segments was knowledge.

The Stained Glass Theatre of Mid-Missouri hopes to see audience members singing along starting tonight and continuing on weekends through Sept. 22 as they perform "Schoolhouse Rock Live," based on an idea by David McCall from the series created by George Newall and Tom Yohe.

"It's so familiar, people will want to be interactive," said music director Melody Starnes.

The familiar animated characters from 21 of the educational commercials will be shown on screens surrounding the theater while the cast of nine harmonize the information-packed songs.

And a live rock band accompaniment will round out the fun show.

The songs thread together a new teacher's thoughts as he prepares to go to his first day of classes.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $7 for Thursday and $8 for Friday or Saturday.
