The first SEC-JC Pep Rally is set for Friday, celebrating the first Southeastern Conference home game for the University of Missouri.
Jill Snodgrass, who partnered with the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau to organize the pep rally, said Friday will be Jefferson City's way of getting people geared up for Saturday's MU game against Georgia.
The event, which runs from 5-9 p.m. downtown, will feature a temporary open container district, allowing patrons to purchase an over 21 wristband and event cup. It also will feature musicians, street performers and other entertainers along High Street.
The actual pep rally from 6-6:30 p.m. will feature speakers from the community, MU and Lincoln University. Participating local hotels, which are seeing increased occupancy for the weekend, will offer transportation for people to get to the event.
