KC police say grenade not an explosive device

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City police say a hand grenade that caused them to temporarily block off an intersection wasn't an explosive device.

KCTV (http://bit.ly/PWdm89) reports a passer-by found the grenade in a street on the city's east side, prompting police to close the intersection around 7:30 a.m. Monday.

The department's bomb unit and robot were called to the scene, and an hour later police announced the grenade, with the pin still in it, was not explosive.

Police say the grenade had been hollowed out and was probably being used as a paper weight or decoration.
