Southern Boone superintendent plans to retire

October 31st, 2012 in News

After coping with a tumultuous year, the Southern Boone County School Board announced the impending retirement of Superintendent Charlotte Miller.

Miller, who has been an educator for 37 years and is currently employed under a two-year contract through 2014, will be leaving her post at the end of this school year.

"The board and I came to an agreement that I would retire at the end of this year," Miller said. "In the discussions we had, we decided it's best for the district. It's going to help the community move forward."

Miller presided over the district during a period that saw the middle school principal resign and the previous school board president step down. Ultimately, a three-member investigative committee evaluated allegations of nepotism and fraud against Miller. The team determined the allegations were false, although it did find an internal district investigation into alleged improper conduct between a employee and a 16-year-old student was "woefully inadequate."
