Three agencies cut from the Heart of Missouri United Way's 2013 budget have devised plans to make up for those lost dollars.
The Boy Scouts of America Great Rivers Council, Red Cross Heart of Missouri and Girls Scouts of the Missouri Heartland were notified Oct. 17 of the budget cuts made by the Columbia-based United Way chapter.
The agencies also receive funds from the Jefferson City-based United Way of Central Missouri. The agencies will continue to receive those funds, Jefferson City officials say.
The Columbia-based chapter follows a community impact funding model, which ranks agencies according to the impact they make on the community.
"The agencies that were cut just didn't get the ranking compared to others," said Tim Rich, executive director of the Heart of Missouri United Way in Columbia.
The budget cuts sent the three agencies scrambling for ways to make up the shortfall.
