After raising more than $3 million for a minimum revenue guarantee, including $100,000 each from Jefferson City and Cole County, the city of Columbia has reached a tentative agreement with American Airlines to provide service from Columbia Regional Airport.
Columbia Mayor Bob McDavid made the announcement Thursday. McDavid said the agreement features two daily flights to Dallas-Fort Worth and one daily flight to Chicago. Flights would begin in mid-February.
The Columbia City Council is planning a special meeting at 5 p.m. today to introduce an ordinance to review the agreement. The bill will be read at the regular meeting Wednesday and could be authorized by the council at a special meeting Oct. 22. The council could also approve at the Oct. 22 meeting a marketing campaign and the agreement for the revenue guarantee.
