After racing out to a big lead Tuesday night, the Jefferson City volleyball team took its foot off the gas.

It took the Lady Jays awhile to find the gas pedal again, but once they did, they were able to drop Sedalia Smith-Cotton 25-11, 25-21 at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Things couldn't have started out any better for Jefferson City, as the Lady Jays raced out to a 19-3 lead to start the first game. But from that point on, they had a slim 31-29 edge in scoring.

"We need to learn we can't just turn it on (when we need to)," Jefferson City coach Christine Meyer said. "We need to have it on all the time, and that's got to be our way. That's going to be how we practice, how we play, no matter who's on the other side of the court."
