Two weeks ago, a rash of injuries at the running back spot for the Helias Crusaders left the coaching staff searching through the roster for someone to play the position. They found Griff McCurren.
"I always thought it was a position I could play well," said McCurren, who was practicing at receiver. "When the coaches gave me the chance, I was excited. I was running hard in practice, trying to give them something to look at."
Consider the position change permanent. McCurren picked up 67 rushing yards in his debut against the Rock Bridge Bruins, then picked up where he left off with 103 more to go along with three first-half touchdowns Saturday afternoon in the Crusaders' 59-19 victory against the MICDS Rams at Adkins Stadium.
