For years, the Jefferson City High School track and field program was one of the most successful in Missouri. Now it will be honored with some of Missouri's top sports figures.

Jefferson City's track and field program will be enshrined in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in Springfield, the Hall announced Thursday.

"We're just thrilled to be a part of an organization like the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame," former Jefferson City track coach Dennis Licklider said. "The neatest part is I was talking to Debbie Walker, one of our former state champions, and she said everybody who ever wore a Jay uniform is going to be a part of that. That's true. All of the coaches, all of the kids that put in so much hard work and represented the city. All of them are a part of it."

Between the boys and girls teams, Jefferson City has combined to win 10 state titles and has had more than 700 individuals qualify for the state championships. The Jays boast 66 individual state champions and five relay-team state champions.
