Bernard Franklin grew up in Montclair, N.J. - a New York City suburb - raised by his mother and grandmother.

"My grandmother is, really, my "shero,'" Franklin told about a dozen Jefferson City area residents Wednesday morning, as he talked about his interest in becoming Lincoln University's next president.

He was the first of the three finalists for the job to visit Jefferson City and meet with students, faculty, staff, community members and LU curators.
