Hundreds of book lovers came out Saturday morning to celebrate the imminent opening of a new library building in Ashland.
More than 300 library supporters of all ages formed a long queue - a "book brigade" - from the old building on Broadway to the new one at 109 N. Main. Hand over hand, patrons conveyed bags of books filled with library materials to the new facility.
Although the brigade was largely ceremonial, it was reminiscent of a similar event held in 2000 when books were hand-delivered from the old bookmobile into the "new" library, Ashland's first.
