The Salvation Army is hosting a radiothon Saturday, allowing listeners to learn more about The Salvation Army's Adopt-A-Family program and giving them a chance to adopt a family for Christmas.
The radiothon, in conjunction with KWOS 950 AM, will be broadcast from 8-10 a.m. at Hy-Vee. Representatives from The Salvation Army will be at Hy-Vee until noon.
Maj. Beth Trimmell, regional director of special services for The Salvation Army, said the Adopt-A-Family program is an opportunity for someone to provide a family with food for a nice Christmas dinner and gifts for the children.
"It's something that can just be marvelous," Trimmell said. "This is the kind of thing that can help a family during hard times."
She said that after an individual, family or other sponsor commits to adopting a family, they are given the family's wish lists and other information about the family. Food or a gift certificate for Christmas dinner and gifts for the family's children are required, but gifts for parents are also welcome.
