Fight over Mo. judges likely to continue

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The battle over how Missouri's top judges appears likely to go on.

Voters this week defeated a proposed constitutional amendment changing the makeup of a panel that screens candidates for the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals. The commission nominates three finalists, and the governor appoints one to the bench.

The amendment's chief opponents said Friday they'll remain active to fight future efforts to scrap the current selection process.

Backers of the constitutional amendment did not actively campaign for it because they did not like the summary that appeared on Tuesday's ballot. They plan to pursue more aggressive changes in the future.
