The Central United Church of Christ Brotherhood held a golf tournament Sept. 7 to raise money for local agencies. The Brotherhood presented a $5,000 check to the Samaritan Center on Oct. 28. The center will use the money to purchase Thanksgiving turkeys for the food pantry.

With Thanksgiving less than three weeks away, the Samaritan Center is a little over halfway to meeting its goal of providing a Thanksgiving turkey to every family its food pantry services.

Marylyn DeFeo, volunteer executive director of the Samaritan Center, said the food pantry needs at least 1,400 turkeys to meet its goal. It currently has about $8,000, which will buy 800 turkeys.

The Central United Church of Christ Brotherhood donated $5,000 to that goal on Oct. 28. It held a golf tournament in September to raise the money. DeFeo said this was the third year the brotherhood has donated money raised at the annual tournament.
