Churches schedule Election Day Communion

A unifying core of Christian belief is Communion.

In the secular world, opinions and politics and affiliations can create divisions.

In a simple but sincere gesture, local churches are joining with congregations in all 50 states and some nations, to hold Election Day Communion.

Jim Lehmer, a lay leader at the newly-formed Table of Grace, immediately knew this was a good idea when he learned of it two months ago.

More than just making the time for reflection possible at his own Disciples of Christ congregation, Lehmer sent e-mails encouraging pastors and lay people across mid-Missouri to join in.

The Rev. David Avery, pastor at Community Christian Church, agreed with the concept.
