Two people were injured Saturday afternoon when a malfunctioning personal watercraft blew up at the Lake of the Ozarks.

After being fueled at a marina, the Sea-Doo PWC would not start and a spark within the engine compartment ignited fumes which caused an explosion, according to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol's Water Patrol division.

Two occupants on the craft were hurt. Ronald E. Dodson, 60, of Lee's Summit, Mo., suffered serious injuries. Blake A. Samskey, 19, of Olathe, Kan., received moderate injuries. Both were taken to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach by ambulance.

Sarah N. Ferry, 19, of Overland Park, Kan., was listed as the driver of the craft; however, the patrol report listed no injuries for her.

The explosion occurred around 4:15 p.m. Saturday at the 65.9 mile mark on Lick Creek Cove in Camden County.
