City parks disheveled by the May 2011 tornado in Joplin benefited from the State Parks Youth Corps, coordinated by Brian Miller.
From August through November 2011, Miller worked with the state parks district office, the Workforce Investment Board and the city of Joplin.
Work locations changed often for the crew of seven and required a high level of communication, despite Miller's office as natural resource steward 40 miles away in Minden mines.
The crew worked through summer heat, wet fall and early winter. Miller secured transportation, food, water, personal protection equipment and tools.
