Woman sentenced to probation in death of toddler

TROY, Mo. (AP) - An eastern Missouri babysitter has been sentenced to five years of probation for the death of an infant in her care.

Cherie Kohenskey of Troy was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to first-degree child endangerment in the death of 2-month-old Levi Haggard.

The child died in July. Kohenskey allowed him to take a nap on his stomach on a bed surrounded by pillows. He died of suffocation.

Kohenskey ran an unlicensed day care at her home. She was caring for 10 children at the time, including two of her own.

In addition to probation, Kohenskey was ordered to do 100 hours of community service work with youths, but she cannot be around children under the age of 3 without supervision.
