Mo. lawmaker injured in riding accident

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri lawmaker is recovering from a back injury after being thrown from her horse over the weekend.

House Democrat Linda Black, of Bonne Terre (bahn TEHR'), issued a statement Wednesday describing the injury as a broken back. She said she expects to miss some community events while she recuperates.

The 41-year-old lawmaker is completing her second House term. She has filed for re-election in her east-central Missouri district and has no opposition so far.

Black chairs the House Corrections Committee - one of the few Democrats to be given a chairmanship in the Republican-controlled chamber.
