LU track squads get multiple honors

The Lincoln University track and field teams have been reeling in the hardware recently, capturing a number of individual honors.

Following the second straight Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championship for the women's team, Twishana Williams has been named the South Central Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year and Victor Thomas has been tabbed the South Central Region Women's Head Coach of the Year. The honors were from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, the Blue Tigers have qualified 19 entries into the NCAA Championships, the second-most for a team in Division II in both genders.

The Lincoln women will attempt to win their first national title since 2009 and seventh overall when they compete at nationals Thursday through Saturday in Pueblo, Colo.

Also recently, 21 members of the Lincoln teams were honored by the USTFCCCA, as 11 women and 10 men were named All-South Central Region after either finishing in the top five regionally in an individual event or among the top three as part of a relay.
