Williams running for Eastern District seat

The man who led the opposition to the Jefferson City Transformation sales tax has filed to run as a Democrat in the Cole County Eastern District commissioner race.

Ed Williams said, "I believe there should be diverse views represented on all governmental bodies. All communities of Cole County should be represented, not just influential interest groups."

Williams believes the record of the Cole County Commission should be examined to see whether actions are fair, financially sound and well planned.

"I seek input from all political, racial, religious and geographic communities in Cole County," he said. "Efforts should be made to better inform citizens about commission deliberations. I hope to attract more citizens into participating in local government."

Williams also said sales taxes are regressive and unfair and should not be considered under any circumstances, and commissioners should express their opinions about Jefferson City's actions that affect county residents.

"I look forward to a vigorous examination of Cole County and Jefferson City governments' records and whether hard-earned taxpayers' money is being used correctly," Williams concluded. "I hope citizens with diverse political opinions will join me in working for all citizens of Cole County."
