Supreme Court upholds state House redistricting

Missouri's Supreme Court this afternoon upheld the new state House of Representatives districts, as drawn late last year by a panel of six appeals court judges.

The court did not explain its decision.

Chief Justice Richard Teitelman signed the two-sentence order, which said: "The judgment is affirmed. Opinion to follow."

The "judgment" is Cole County Circuit Judge Patricia Joyce's Feb. 14 ruling that the 163 new House district lines meet all the constitutional requirements.

The order was released just over three hours before the filing deadline for candidates to run in the August primary and November general elections.

The Supreme Court's order gave no indication when its opinion would be issued.

Its next scheduled hand-down day is next Tuesday, April 3.
