It had to happen sooner or later.
For years, the Helias boys tennis team was a model of consistency, with seasoned veterans in place to bring the newcomers along.
Then came a year like last year, where it was all veterans. And while that was nice at the time, it's certainly making this season interesting.
With the exception of senior Nick Kroeger, a mainstay the past couple years, the team is full of varsity newcomers. And after that, the roster boasts even newer newcomers - some players are just now taking up the sport.
"As any coach in any sport knows, you're always looking down the pipeline," said Helias coach Tim Dunville, whose team opens the season today at Fulton.
