Crusaders return just one varsity tennis player

It had to happen sooner or later.

For years, the Helias boys tennis team was a model of consistency, with seasoned veterans in place to bring the newcomers along.

Then came a year like last year, where it was all veterans. And while that was nice at the time, it's certainly making this season interesting.

With the exception of senior Nick Kroeger, a mainstay the past couple years, the team is full of varsity newcomers. And after that, the roster boasts even newer newcomers - some players are just now taking up the sport.

"As any coach in any sport knows, you're always looking down the pipeline," said Helias coach Tim Dunville, whose team opens the season today at Fulton.
