GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Jesse Root scored 9 seconds into overtime to give fourth-seeded Yale a 3-2 victory over top-seeded Minnesota in the NCAA West Regional semifinals Friday.

Kenny Agostino intercepted Minnesota defenseman Ben Marshall's pass behind the net and feed Root for his 10th goal of the season. Yale (19-12-3) will play North Dakota in the regional final Saturday for a spot in the Frozen Four in Pittsburgh.

Minnesota, the No. 2 overall seed in the 16-team tournament, finished the season 26-9-5.

Minnesota overcame a 2-0 deficit in the third period, cutting it to one on Nate Schmidt's power-play goal and tying it on Zach Budish's goal with 6:20 left.

Agostino opened the scoring in the second period with his 16th goal of the season, and defenseman Gus Young made it 2-0 with a power-play goal in the period.

Jeff Malcolm made 27 saves for Yale, and Adam Wilcox stopped 23 shots for Minnesota.

NORTH DAKOTA 2, NIAGARA 1

Andrew MacWilliams and Danny Kristo scored in a 57-second span early in the third period in North Dakota's comeback victory over Niagara.

MacWilliams tied it with an unassisted goal, his second goal of the season, at 1:56 of the third, and Kristo put second-seeded North Dakota (22-12-7) in front at 2:53 with his 26th goal.

Jason Beattie scored for the third-seeded Purple Eagles (23-10-5) in the second period.

Zane Gothberg made 28 saves for second-seeded North Dakota, and Carsen Chubak stopped 41 shots for Niagara.


NORTHEAST REGIONAL

UMASS-LOWELL 6, WISCONSIN 1

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Connor Hellebuyck stopped a first-period penalty shot and finished with 31 saves to help UMass-Lowell rout Wisconsin.

Joseph Pendaza, Christian Folin, Shayne Thompson, Derek Arnold, Adam Chapie and Ryan McGrath scored for the top-seeded River Hawks (27-10-2). They will play Hockey East rival New Hampshire on Saturday in the regional final.

Nic Kerdiles scored for fourth-seeded Wisconsin (22-13-7) in the third period, ending Hellebuyck's shutout streak at 165 minutes, 20 seconds.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 5, DENVER 2

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Casey Thrush scored twice and New Hampshire rallied to beat Denver.

Trevor van Riemsdyk, Dalton Speelman John Henrion also scored for second-seeded New Hampshire (20-11-7), and Casey DeSmith finished with 31 saves. Daniel Doremus and Quentin Shore scored for third-seeded Denver (20-14-5).

New Hampshire tied it at 2 on van Riemsdyk's power-play goal 5:26 into the second period, then took the lead on Speelman' goal with 22 seconds left in the period.
