Michael Wayne Strobel apparently drowned in the Moreau River.

Cole County Sheriff Greg White said the search for Michael Wayne Strobel ended Friday afternoon, when his body was found in the flooded Moreau River.

White said Strobel's body was found about 2 p.m., near the Nine Hills Road Bridge over the Moreau River.

An autopsy will be done, but White said there was no foul play involved in his death.

Strobel was reported missing just after 7 p.m. Thursday, after his vehicle was found in the 800 block of Murphy's Ford Road.

Strobel - whose 34th birthday would have been later this month - had been with family Thursday.

He had gone out for a walk, and was not seen again.

White said deputies responded to the area and asked for assistance from the Highway Patrol, Capitol Police and the Region West and Jefferson City fire departments.

After searching the river banks and nearby woods Thursday night and this morning - including the assistance of a patrol helicopter, a fire boat and forward-looking infrared radar (FLIR) - the patrol's Water Division went onto the river this morning to help with the search.
