Report: Mississippi River second-most toxic

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A new report released by the group Environment Missouri says the Mississippi River is the nation's second-most toxic river.

KSDK-TV (http://on.ksdk.com/GJfpJc ) reports that data released Thursday by Environment Missouri shows that 12 million pounds of toxins were dumped into the Mississippi in 2010. The only waterway more toxic is the Ohio River.

Environment Missouri is calling for pollution prevention measures and stricter law enforcement to protect the rivers.
