The city has approved 12 new emergency sirens after suspending the rules Monday and moving forward with the bill.
The contract with Jefferson City based company Meyer Electric was introduced Monday and set to be approved April 2, but 3rd Ward Councilman Bryan Pope said he would like to expedite the process as the Police Department has been working on the project for some time.
The bill is for an agreement to purchase and install 12 new sirens to replace the existing system, which at 45-years-old has become unreliable and difficult to maintain.
The bid from Meyer Electric is just under $300,000, and the city has budgeted $400,000 from the half-cent capital improvements sales tax to replace the entire system.
