Redwings beat Walnut Grove for girls Class 1 title

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Katrina Nichols' two free throws with 3.2 seconds left lifted Eminence to its first state championship in school history, as the Redwings defeated Walnut Grove 36-35 in the Missouri Class 1 girls' state title.

After a Walnut Grove foul, Nichols inbounded the ball to Merissa Turner underneath the basket with 7.5 seconds remaining. Turner returned the pass and Nichols was fouled in the act of shooting.

Kelsey Williams led Eminence (29-1) with 16 points and Nichols finished with four.

Heather Harman and Lexi Harman both scored nine points for Walnut Grove (26-6), which regained the lead with two free throws by Kaylea Adams - her first points of the game - with 46.2 seconds left.

Walnut Grove took an early 14-8 lead after scoring nine unanswered points, but Eminence ended the first half on a 15-6 run to take a 23-20 lead into the break.
