Your Opinion: Response to Scheulen on humane methods

March 15th, 2012 by Carleen Peitzmeyer, Loose Creek in News

Dear Editor:

This in response to Kristie Scheulen's letter of March 10.

Agriculture has been around a lot longer than agribusines. Agribusiness came about when people moved to the cities and had no place to raise livestock.

Livestock was still being hit in the head with sledge hammers in the 1950s.

I have never heard anyone defend killing an animal by hitting it in the head is humane or even justified (until now) unless the animal was attacking you.

These farmers/ranchers going out to put these animals knew they would find dead and dying cattle. Why not take guns and ammo? The majority of people I spoke with said shooting would be more humane.

I don't think I treat my dogs and cats like humans. I do know that I like them better than most humans.
